Shiatsu Instruction - Ohashiatsu Classes

"Touch for Peace" is the motto of Ohashi Sensai, my teacher.

The Institute's program meets a variety of goals. Some students attend courses to learn techniques for self-healthcare, some because of an interest in Eastern culture, and some want to explore a new career or add techniques and knowledge to their current practice. The focus of courses is on experiential learning: taking the information into the body and experiencing the techniques and concepts in yourself and others. The relaxed learning environment is one of non-judgement, allowing students to find a safe place to express their experiences. Studying Ohashiatsu gives you a deeper psychological understanding of yourself and others, which leads to a happier personal life and more compassion towards others.

Each course offers theory, exercises, meditation and hands-on training. The basic curriculum courses are 30 hours each. Courses may be taken independently or as part of a complete study. All instructors follow the same curriculum, making it possible for students to follow the program at many locations around the world.

Here in Ann Arbor I teach Beginning I and II and Intermediate I, the first three levels of the basic curriculum.

The BEGINNING level introduces the concept of Chi, Yin and Yang, the 12 meridians and some major tsubos (acupoints). The course focuses on feeling the flow of Chi in the body and learning the natural movements central to Ohashiatsu for giving a full-body session. In the second part of the Beginning level, the study of the meridian system and its relationship to the Five Elements reveals how our appearance, habits, preferences, emotions and attitudes are all examples of our effort to be in harmony with our natural self.

At the Intermediate level new techniques using arms, elbows and knees increase body balance and grace. This course introduces diagnostic areas and the energy qualities of Kyo and Jitsu, and the psychological/emotional aspects of meridian energy.

The Ohashi Institute is approved by the National Certification board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider (#450117-06).

Classes are 30 hours for each level and will be held five consecutive Sundays from 10 am-5 pm (six hours).

I also teach classes on nutrition and cooking, so look for dates to be announced, or call for more information.

I have been teaching for the Ohashi Institute since 2002. I teach Beginning I and II and Intermediate I. It is the Ohashiatsu curriculum that I use. So you can take classes with me and then continue with the Institute in New York City, Italy, Germany, or other cities and countries where Ohashiatsu is taught.

BEGINNING I

BEGINNING I is all about movement, playing on the floor, crawling, meditation and learning to see and listen to our own and other peoples Chi within our bodies. It really is a fun class.

BEGINNING II

BEGINNING II is a continuation of the movement and meditations we learn in Beg I, with starting to explore theory on Five Elements and Yin and Yang.

INTERMEDIATE I

INTERMEDIATE I is of course a continuation, and then gets into more advanced movements using more of your body and doing transitions.
